I know I've been gone for a while, but I was surprised to see the
archives stopped in 2016.

Did something happen I don't know about?

I am thinking a couple of things may have happened.

1 First, the keeper of this may have moved on thus resulting in an obsolete and eventually unmonitored and closed off email distro list.

2 Secondary thoughts are companies may have drifted away from using backup software in general or the interest in having a dedicated person for backup has dropped considerably with VMware and cloud technologies such as AWS and Microsoft Azure making tape backup strategies an obsolete thought in those companies IT leadership minds.

It looks like that might be the case

On another note, does anyone know what became of the bug reports? Here’s the last one I got:

Dear Neil Conner,

Your subscription to "Technical Solution [ NetBackup Enterprise Server ]" has been updated in SymWISE.
The following updates have been made since 04/14/2015.

BUG REPORT: After an update of the OpenStorage (OST) plug-in to version 2.2.1.1, NetBackup may report status code 129 and "EMM status: Insufficient disk space or High Water Mark would be exceeded Disk storage unit is full(129)" more frequently due to a change in the method of calculation of free space on the storage unit.

Veritas was owned by Symantec but got they announced sale of Veritas to Carlyle Group 08/11/2015 and that sale later closed.

I wonder if you have to re-subscribe at the new Veritas.

I went through this with Symantec before the sale and never got a good answer. The alternatives they pointed me to never came close to doing the same thing. Was hoping it got revived after the sale but I haven’t found it yet. It’s crazy how many long-time Veritas staff have never seen one of these bug reports before.

If you have a support partner, engage them. if you deal with Verantec
(Veritas+Symantec) directly, you may have to re-open the case.

I get support through DLT (and provide them with very strange problems)
and they do a pretty good job engaging Veritas and following up.

Hello,

I work as a contractor and can report that traditional enterprise backup jobs are still strong. Though I am never just a backup administrator. Another thing to consider is that other backup products have been gaining because the cost of Netbackup was deemed pretty high. Also, I am not sure if Netbackup is the best product in the space any longer with EMCs offerings and hardware pairings, Data Domain, Avamar, etc...

I know I've been gone for a while, but I was surprised to see the
archives stopped in 2016.

Did something happen I don't know about?

That was my thought as well. There seems to be a general trend toward other
social media outlets for a lot of things instead of mailing lists.

Maybe NBU is just so easy now, nobody needs to ask any questions about it
anymore? ;-)

Yes, Social gets a lot of attention, but email lists are still the
best vehicle.
I use Eudora for email and their list and moderator are the example
of how a list can:
1. Be run with a great moderator (I call her the Queen of Eudora)
2..act as a source of knowledge as people are reporting new actions
all the time (I have been using Eudora for 20 years and still learn
from the list)
3. Problem solving. If someone on the list can not respond to a
problem, then it is almost time to give up
Actually, not give up but re describe the problem. (99% success rate)
4. Eudora list is "email" and Eudora email is txt, makes searching simple.

wish there was a similar list for recovery/backup!
